Junk Tow’s

Today I picked up a few junk cars in Chicago. My first pick up today was a ford escort that did not run. When I arrived to pick up this junk car it was parked in the garage. The customer helped me push this junk car into the street and I hooked it up to my truck. From there I headed off to the junk yard to drop the car off. My next pick up was on the north side of the city near Wrigley Field. When I arrived to the customers address he came out side and told me the car was parked around the corner. When we got to the car it was parallel parked in and did not run. Luckily there was enough space for me to push the junk car into the street and onto my truck. I took this car to the junk yard as well. Traffic was backing up everywhere as I started heading home. I wonder what tomorrow will bring?

Junk RV, Too Tall For Bridges?

Today I picked up several junk cars in Chicago. My first pick up was a 2002 Chrysler Cirrus that ran and drove. When I arrived to the customers house I backed the car out of the driveway and drove it onto my truck. From there I headed to the junk yard in Chicago. My next pick up was a 1992 Chevy c-1500 pick up truck. This junk truck had 220,000 miles on it, however, it still ran and drove. The problem was that it had no brakes! I took this one to the junk yard as well. My last tow of the day was an ’85 Ford E-350 RV. It did not run but I was able to winch it onto the bed of my truck. The RV was about 9 1/2 feet tall. When It was on my truck it measured just under 13 1/2 feet tall. I had to be extremely careful not to take a route that would take me under low clearance bridges. After zig - zagging through the city streets to avoid the low clearance bridges, I was able to drop off this junk RV at the junk yard before heading home for the night.

Chicago’s Junk Cars

Today I picked up several junk cars in Chicago. I Picked up a 1991 Ford Escort that ran and drove, however, the body was in rough shape. aside from the front bumper hanging off there was severe rust spots that had been covered up with spray paint. After dropping this junk car off at the junk yard, I headed to my next pick up. I was picking up a 1995 Olds 88 Royle from a repair shop. When I arrived the car was still in the shop. The customer and mechanic helped me push this junk car into the street so I could winch it onto my truck and tow it away. From there I headed down the street to pick up a 1993 Buick Park Ave that did not run. I dropped both of these junk cars off and headed to my next pick up. I was picking up a 1999 Ford Ranger that did not run and had a flat tire. When I arrived there were no cars blocking it in so I was able to back right up to it and tow it away. I had one more pick up on my way out of Chicago. I was picking up a 1999 Chevy Caviler that still ran and drove, with minor front end damage. When I arrived to pick up the junk car the customer informed me he hit a tree and both air bags had been deployed. I would consider this major damage to a vehicle but after all its a junk car and will go to the junk yard in the morning!

Scrap Truck

Today I started my day by picking up several cars that went to the scrap yard in Chicago. On my last pick up of the day I was scheduled to pick up a 1989 Dodge Stake truck. This truck was on a Dodge 3500 chassis, so it was pretty heavy. However instead of having a typical truck bed, this truck had an 8 foot flat bed. The truck also had dulles ( four wheels on the back axle, two on each side.) The truck fit on my flat bed with only a few inches to spare on either side. I was able to back up to the truck and winch it onto my truck. As I started off on my way, I noticed the door on the Dodge truck fly open. I quickly pulled over and tied the door shut with the seat belt. It stayed shut the rest of the trip home, I will bring this truck into Chicago to the scrap yard in the morning.

junk car on blocks

Today I picked up several junk cars in Chicago. My last pick up of the day was a 1997 Mitsubishi 3000GT. The customer told me that their was a blown piston in the engine and it seized up. There was only one more problem, this junk car was sitting on cinder blocks and had no tires. Lucky for me, the car was sitting in the street and was not blocked in. After buying the car I backed my truck up to the car. I was able to get part of the bed (of my truck) under the car. I hooked up the winch cable and started to drag the car onto my truck. The car had now fallen off the blocks and the blocks were making pulling the car very difficult. I was able to raise the bed and crawl under the car and remove 3 of the 4 blocks. The fourth block was stuck in between the rotor and the fender. I took one of my J hooks and used it as a hammer to break the block free. The Block finally cracked and crumbled. Now I was able to finish pulling the car onto the bed and secure it to my truck. I will take this car to the junk yard on Monday morning. Hopefully they will be able to help me unload this car with their fork lift!

Chicago Junk Cars

Today I picked up several junk cars in Chicago. I was picking up my first junk car in the city today when I noticed that my winch cable had started to frey. I was afraid it was going to snap with the tension of a pulling up a car. I was able to get the car to the junk yard and drop it off. From their I headed to a repair shop for tow trucks that was able to put a new winch cable onto my winch. Once I was on the road again I picked up a mercury topaz that ran and drove rough. I dropped this junk car off at the junk yard in Chicago. From there I headed out of the city to pick up a Saturn that did not run and drive. It was parked in a driveway, so I backed up to the junk car and winched it onto my truck. I will take it to the junk yard in the morning. I wonder how many more cars I will pick up?

Junk Car stuck in mud

Today I went to pick up a car in a suburb of Chicago. I was picking up a 1992 Pontiac fire bird that did not run. When I arrived to pick up this junk car I noticed it was blocked in by an additional two junk cars as well as a boat and another trailer. The driveway was not big enough to maneuver my truck. The customer told me to drive in the grass and pick up the car from the back. As soon as my tires rolled into the grass my truck sunk in the wet grass. I did not want to get my truck stuck so I backed out of the mud and informed the customer I would be back with a smaller truck that work better in the tight spots. When I arrived with the smaller truck I was able to move one of the junk cars out of the way before getting access to the junk car I was picking up. From there I winched the fire bird onto the bed and took it to the junk yard in Chicago. From there I picked up a few more junk cars and headed home for the night. I wonder what tomorrow’s tow’s will bring?

Junk Car Tow’s

Today I picked up junk cars in Chicago. My first pick up was a Mazda mx3 that ran and drove but over heated. I picked up this junk car from a repair shop. The space was tight but luckily the car still ran and drove. From there I went to pick up a Mitsubishi diamante that did not run and drive. It also had a flat rear tire, so I had to flip flop the car on my truck with the car on the tow bar. I was able to get them loaded up and dropped off at the junk yard. The junk yard was busy with lots of trucks dropping off junk cars. I continued on my day picking up junk. My next pick up was a Chevy metro that had a cracked frame. It was parked on the city street with nothing blocking it in. I was able to drag this junk car onto the bed and get it to the junk yard with out any problems. I wonder what tommorow’s junk car pick ups will have in store for me?

Junk Cars, Nice Weather

With the weather reaching all time highs in Chicago for this time of year, it makes for perfect conditions to pick up junk cars in Chicago. My first pick up of the day was a 1996 Ford Escort that did not run and drive. When I arrived to the customers house I found out it was a Explorer instead of an Escort which is no big deal. I’m not sure where the communication error lies, but I towed this junk car to the junk yard and continued on. My second pick up was a Plymouth voyager that had 2 flat tires. It was parked on the street with nothing of it. I was able to back up to the van and winch it on my truck and tow it to the junk yard. My third pick up was a Ford Crown Vic that did not run. It was close to the scrap yard so I picked it up and dropped it off in no time before heading to my next pick up out of the city. I picked up a Ford Ranger, Chevy Corsica, and a Saturn sc1 before heading home for the night. I wonder what cars I will pick up tomorrow?

Junk Cars no steering

Yesterday I picked up several junk cars in Chicago. I had on car on my truck when I headed to my first pick up in Chicago. When I arrived at the address I learned the car was in a parking lot behind an apartment complex. The customer told me the ignition was broken. I was able to get the car in neutral but as I started to steer the car the steering wheel locked and would not unlock. This made it a little challenging to maneuver to my truck to hook up to the tow bar. I was able to finally maneuver it enough to get it to my truck and tow it to the junk yard in Chicago. From there I picked up a Hyundai Elantra that had rear end damage that still ran and drove. I loaded it onto my truck and headed to my next pick up. I was picking up a Honda accord that had a broken tie rod. The car did not run so I had to maneuver it by had with only one wheel that turned. I used a the tow bar and a chain to help pull the car straight and up to the back of my truck. I took these cars to the junk yard in Chicago and headed home for the day!  I wonder what junk cars I will be picking up this week?
